Job Outlook for Coding Bootcamp Graduates in Seattle

What is the job outlook for software developers in Seattle?

Seattle is one of the most promising job markets for tech professionals. At the start of 2020, Washington's rank in economic growth and competitiveness rose from fifth highest to fourth highest in the nation, and industry experts were predicting more growth, especially for tech-related jobs in Seattle-based professional and business services industries. Of course, since the coronavirus pandemic began, some startups have had to back away from hiring new candidates, but a recent study offers an optimistic outlook, revealing that many small tech companies and the larger tech giants have continued to hire in spite of the economic slowdown. Job seekers will find there are still many fulfilling and lucrative opportunities available for professionals with passion, drive, and up-to-the-minute skills.

What is the average salary for software developers in Seattle?

According to job board Indeed, typical salaries in this region are generally higher than national averages. Local professionals report that base annual salaries average $129,281 for software engineers, $164,727 for lead software engineers, $147,694 for front-end developers, and $76,715 for junior software engineers. Across the U.S. the typical salary range is $85,750 to $92,046 for software engineers, $114,945 to $117,474 for lead software engineers, $76,929 to $119,224 for front-end developers, and $64,056 to $74,148 for junior software engineers.

What companies hire software developers in Seattle?

Seattle consistently ranks among the top 10 tech hubs in the U.S., making it an ideal destination for job-seeking software developers, software engineers, and web developers. Numerous employment opportunities can be found in the city's many tech standouts, such as Amazon, Microsoft, Zulily, Redfin, and Tableau, not to mention other major corporations headquartered in Seattle and surrounding suburbs, like Starbucks, Nordstrom, and Weyerhaeuser.

Just as many jobs can be found in Seattle's small or startup tech organizations, including DemandStar, Qumulo, Highspot, FlyHomes, Rover, and Big Fish Games. At Convoy, for example, a company that seeks to improve the efficiency of the shipping industry with its platform, software engineers write scalable software for processing millions of dollars of payments and for creating other features for the company's clients. At Remitly, software development engineers work on various teams, shipping code and building products that help immigrants send over $7 billion a year to their loved ones around the world.

SwitchUp Rankings Methodology

SwitchUp's rankings are based on over 20,000 reviews from verified students and alumni, across over 500 bootcamps in operation. Because student and alumni feedback and ratings are indicative of bootcamp quality, rankings are ordered by review score. The order of the ranking is based on data at the time of publishing, but the ratings and review counts will change as more reviews come in.

To be considered for the 2021 rankings, bootcamps must help students land jobs in tech through excellent instructor support, curriculum, and career resources; each review left on SwitchUp evaluates the bootcamp on all of these aspects.

All bootcamps considered for the Best Seattle Coding ranking were required to meet the following criteria at the time of publication:

  • Offer an immersive or part-time Coding program in Seattle
  • Have at least 5 verified reviews of Coding programs in Seattle
